Imams will receive a salary increase
The Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kyrgyzstan has announced the introduction of a 9% commission for citizens performing Umrah. This decision came as a result of discussions with community representatives and is aimed at increasing salaries for imams, as reported by the Spiritual Administration.
The Muftiate noted that the issue of financing the religious sector was raised at the People's Kurultai, which took place in December 2024. However, due to the secular nature of the state, budgetary funds for these needs are not provided. Therefore, the Spiritual Administration sought external sources of funding but ultimately decided to create a fund based on internal resources.
Clerics emphasized that in most regions, except for Bishkek and Osh, predominantly elderly imams work, many of whom have been laboring for many years without compensation. Young specialists are not eager to move to villages due to low salaries. The Muftiate believes that the introduction of a commission from pilgrims will help create conditions to attract qualified and active imams.
This proposal has been sent to the Council of Ulema for verification of its compliance with Sharia norms.
