During the discussion, it was emphasized that parasitic diseases, due to their widespread prevalence and significant impact on the socio-economic situation, remain one of the key public health issues at the global level.
The risks associated with the importation of parasites by foreign citizens working in Russia have become particularly relevant, notes Rospotrebnadzor.
A comprehensive approach is applied in Russia to combat parasitic diseases. Scientific research organizations of Rospotrebnadzor have established reference centers focused on studying parasitic diseases. The key task of these centers is the continuous monitoring and analysis of the epidemiological situation both within the country and beyond its borders.
Based on the collected data, scientifically grounded forecasts and proposals for effective preventive measures are developed.
“The reference centers are engaged in the identification of parasites, receiving materials from various regions of Russia. Detailed studies are conducted, the results of which, including genomic sequences, are entered into the national database VGARus. This allows for the creation of a unified information space and expands opportunities for scientific research,” the statement notes.
According to Rospotrebnadzor, 10 innovative test systems for detecting various pathogens, such as malaria, schistosomiasis, ascariasis, leishmaniasis, trichocephalosis, and toxoplasmosis, have already been developed and successfully implemented. Work is also actively underway to create new test systems for PCR diagnostics of diseases such as diphyllobothriasis, dirofilariasis, and echinococcosis.
