Students are prohibited from fasting during Ramadan — sanitary doctor
According to Kushubakova, a growing body requires a lot of energy and activity, and because of this, the importance of adequate nutrition cannot be underestimated. "It is necessary to understand that children should not be forced to fast. We have already encountered such situations during inspections in schools. For example, in the south of the country, there was a case where all first-graders were fasting, and no food was prepared in the cafeteria. We recommended that educational institutions conduct explanatory work with parents about the importance of nutrition for children," she added.
She also noted that fasting should be observed at a more mature age when a person is capable of consciously making such decisions and understands the religious aspects. "Schoolchildren often do not understand the essence of this process. Therefore, our position as medical professionals is that parents should take responsibility for their children's health," summarized Maria Kushubakova.
It was previously reported that a lack of nutrition and sleep deprivation can negatively affect concentration and the ability to learn, which in turn can lead to a decline in academic performance.
In 2026, the month of Ramadan (Orozo ayi) will begin on February 19.
