A solemn military-cultural event dedicated to the veterans who participated in stabilizing the situation at the Tajik-Afghan border took place at the secondary school named after Esengul Karasartov.
Local authorities, veterans of the Tajik-Afghan events, as well as heads of the ayil okmotu and representatives of various institutions attended the event.
The celebration was made possible by the initiative of the school administration and the pre-conscription training instructor Samat Beyshenov, who organized the military-applied games prepared by the students. In addition, a concert program was held. Veterans were awarded cash prizes and certificates from the Ak-Tal District State Administration and the ayil okmotu.
It should be noted that tensions at the Tajik-Afghan border began to escalate in the early 1990s, particularly during the period from 1992 to 1997, when a civil war was taking place in Tajikistan. Armed groups of the Tajik opposition attempted to cross the border into Afghanistan, leading to clashes with border guards. The conflict was localized with the support of Soviet border guards and Tajik military, but it resulted in numerous casualties and injuries.
About 3,000 servicemen from Kyrgyzstan participated in the Tajik-Afghan events, of which 36 are currently registered at the Ak-Tal District Military Commissariat. On February 25, 1999, Kyrgyzstan withdrew its soldiers from the Tajik-Afghan border.
