The new school holiday schedule in Kyrgyzstan has raised questions among parents
According to her, for many years the third quarter ended in late March, allowing children to rest from April 1.
“Previously, there was always a week of vacation that ended on April 1. Now, considering that the third quarter started on January 12, it has turned out to be significantly shorter. Such a sharp change in the academic and vacation schedule raises questions. Why are there so many days off at the end of the year, in May? Can officials from the Ministry of Education explain this?” one parent expressed her doubts.
Some users on social media noted that the fourth quarter, which lasts 2.5 months including the May break, has now become the longest, whereas previously the third was considered the longest.
“Is this normal? After all, children are facing exams and the Nationwide Testing, and that’s just a few weeks away,” wrote one mother. “After May 20, it gets very hot in the classrooms, making it impossible to study,” added another.
Some teachers also expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that the vacation schedule could not be planned in advance, as they only have three days left for tests and grading.
It was previously reported that during the spring break, schoolchildren in Kyrgyzstan would only have one day off — on Friday, March 6. After the negative reaction from the public, officials extended the break, setting it from March 2 to March 7. However, because of this, the Last Bell in schools will now ring not on May 25, but on the 29th.
In 2025, spring break was supposed to start on March 17 and last until March 23.
Traditionally, the third quarter ended before the Nowruz holiday, and the fourth began on April 1, providing 10 calendar days of rest.
In comparison, in neighboring Kazakhstan, spring break in 2026 will last for 11 days — from March 19 to March 29 inclusive.
