The deputy warns of a possible ecological disaster if no action is taken.
At a parliamentary meeting, Ulan Primov raised the issue of the critical decline in the water level of Lake Issyk-Kul, as well as the retreat of the shoreline.
He emphasized that the lack of urgent measures to protect the lake could lead to serious ecological consequences for the country.
“We have already discussed this topic at meetings with the Cabinet of Ministers. The main reason is that a large portion of the water is diverted for farmers' irrigation needs. This results in significant volumes of water not reaching the lake, threatening its existence,” the deputy added.
Primov also reported that while several years ago about 80 rivers flowed into the lake, now their number has decreased to 30.
In this regard, he proposed to establish a separate agency that would focus exclusively on lake issues, work with international donors, attract funding, and conduct informational campaigns for the public.
