At the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh on February 25, the Chairman of the State Border Service Abdikarim Alimbaev announced the preparation of amendments to the current decree on visa restrictions for citizens of Kazakhstan. This was in response to a request from Deputy Dastan Bekeshev regarding difficulties faced by Kazakhs crossing the border while living in Kyrgyzstan.

The head of the State Border Service emphasized that Kazakhs, like Kyrgyz citizens, are required to register in the country they are staying in. "However, there are cases where people do not register for a long time. In connection with the new rules, we have received appeals from deputies who pointed out the problems faced by Kazakhs who have obtained citizenship and are encountering difficulties when returning to Kyrgyzstan. As a result, an instruction was given to the Cabinet of Ministers, and now a working group is being formed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to address this issue. Citizens who were born and raised here but obtained Kazakh citizenship will be able to cross the border without hindrance. The existing visa restrictions will not apply to them," Alimbaev noted.

He also added that Kyrgyz citizens with children holding Kazakh citizenship can cross the border without any issues.

It should be reminded that starting from October 2025, a rule came into effect allowing citizens of Kazakhstan to stay in Kyrgyzstan for no more than 90 days within a 180-day period. Since December 2025, Kazakhs exceeding this period have faced difficulties when entering Kyrgyzstan.
