Dastan Bekeshev proposes to ease the requirements for school uniforms and dress codes in residential complexes
He noted: "School uniforms, while they can be beautiful, are often uncomfortable. We do not ask children for their opinions and make decisions for them. Let's remember where the dress code originated. Initially, it was related to the church, then in England, uniforms were introduced for poor children, which later spread around the world. However, in most countries, students are not required to wear strict suits. Here, if a child is not wearing a tie, they are scolded. Students suffer from both heat and cold. We receive many complaints from the regions. I am not against school uniforms, but I suggest softening the requirements. Why not allow children to come in t-shirts and jeans? Why must girls wear skirts? This is a legacy of the Soviet era. For example, in China, children wear sports uniforms, which is beneficial for their health. I am not insisting on sportswear, but smart casual would be a good option," he emphasized.
Bekeshev called on the Ministry of Education and the Cabinet of Ministers to give schools the opportunity to review the dress code themselves or develop appropriate regulatory documents.
He also suggested starting with the parliament: "I understand that there is an international protocol requiring suits. But not all parliaments adhere to strict dress codes. It is uncomfortable, agree. I believe that the old requirements should be abolished, especially for guests. Why should a security guard check how a citizen is dressed? There were no such requirements before. We should pay more attention to knowledge rather than appearance," the deputy added.
