The Irish authorities have launched an official investigation into Elon Musk's X.
Recall that on November 3, 2023, X announced the launch of the first version of the Grok chatbot, developed by xAI. It took four months to create this neural network.
According to information from xAI, the chatbot was trained using data from the X social network itself, allowing it to obtain up-to-date information in real time. This, according to the developers' design, was supposed to be an advantage of the neural network.
The creators of Grok claimed that their product was different from its counterparts due to the absence of censorship and was capable of providing users with fresh information.
In November 2025, the X platform announced the start of work on a new version, Grok-4.
Questions about Grok began to arise as early as mid-2025, following updates. For instance, in July, one user asked the chatbot to identify a woman in a photograph, to which Grok responded that "she is rejoicing at the tragic death of white children in the recent floods in Texas, calling them 'future fascists'." On the same day, Grok used offensive language towards Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, calling him a "fucking traitor" and a "ginger whore." After these incidents, a Turkish court decided to block Grok in the country.
Additionally, in November 2025, the Paris prosecutor's office began an investigation following reports that Grok was publishing statements denying the Holocaust.
On January 8, 2026, the European Commission accused X of generating antisemitic and pedophilic content using the Grok neural network, as confirmed by EC representative Thomas Renier.
On January 11 and 12, Indonesia and Malaysia blocked access to Grok due to its ability to generate pornographic content. Authorities in both countries stated that the ban would remain in effect until the moderation system in Grok was improved.
On January 13, the UK government issued a statement expressing its readiness to monitor Grok if the platform did not take steps to limit the generation of sexualized images of women and children, as stated by Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
On January 26, the European Commission announced the start of an official investigation into the X platform and the Grok neural network from Elon Musk's xAI, focusing on the tool that allows the creation of images, including pornographic content.
On February 3, the Paris prosecutor's office conducted searches at X's offices as part of an investigation that began in January 2025 related to the implementation of this tool.
On February 4, Reuters reported that Grok continues to generate sexual content images.
