Jalal-Abad changed its name last year
An initiative has emerged in Kyrgyz society to return the city of Manas its historical name — Jalal-Abad. This was reported by lawyer Nurbek Toktakunov on his social media.
He poses the question: "Is it not time to restore the historical name of the city?".
It should be noted that the renaming of the city took place in September 2025. According to Mayor Ernis Ormokeev, the initiative came from "some citizens of the city".
The city had its previous name, with minor changes, since 1870.
