In the new issue of the "Our People Abroad" column, we talk about Aydai Tashtankulova, who has settled in Mirny, a city in Yakutia, with her family.

Aydai was born in 1998 in the village of Chon-Örükty, located in the Issyk-Kul region.

“I currently work in a kindergarten. I received my education at the Bishkek Humanities University, my specialty is teaching,” she reported.

After marrying her husband, they decided to go abroad for work to build their own house. Relatives in Mirny helped them realize this plan, and that’s how they ended up in Yakutia,” Aydai added.

According to Tashtankulova, Mirny is a small town where you can easily walk to any place in the summer. However, the winters here are harsh, with temperatures dropping to -40 and -50 degrees.

“It’s much quieter here than in large Russian cities, and people of different nationalities live here. There are quite a few Kyrgyz. Unfortunately, it’s quite difficult to find fresh products; most of them are stored in warehouses for a long time. The weather conditions are also very different: there is no clear division into four seasons — winter and summer change each other rapidly,” she noted.

Working officially provides access to free medical services. When their daughter was born, the family received maternity benefits and allowances until she was 1.5 years old, which was a pleasant surprise considering their Kyrgyz citizenship.

Most of their income is sent back home, where a house is currently being built. Aydai and her husband are looking forward to its completion so they can return to their homeland.

At first, it was hard for them — they missed home and their relatives, but over time they adapted.

You can meet Kyrgyz people in every store, as there are many of them here. Kyrgyz specialists work in hospitals, schools, and universities, and among their compatriots, there are even successful businessmen.

On weekends, the family spends time with their children, attending clubs, meeting relatives, and going for walks.

“We hope to return to our homeland and continue working in our specialty,” concluded Tashtankulova, who, along with her husband, is raising a son and a daughter.
