Opinion: "Tomorrow, healers and charlatans will "treat" us and our children"
Public figure Marat Abdieyev shared his opinion on the detention of pediatric nephrologist Nasira Beishebayeva in Bishkek, calling this event completely unacceptable.

Who will protect medical professionals from professional risks?

According to Abdieyev, medical workers in Kyrgyzstan need a system of insurance and legally guaranteed protection from criminal prosecution in case of professional risk.

The detention of Beishebayeva, who possesses unique qualifications, jeopardizes the lives of children in need of her assistance while the investigation continues.

Although she was ultimately released under house arrest after public outcry and support from colleagues, the very fact of arresting a doctor with an impeccable reputation raises questions.

How could this happen? Unfortunately, a punitive approach predominates in the law enforcement system, which does not take into account the specifics of medical practice.

Why is this unacceptable?

Even not being a doctor, I understand that there is a huge difference in medicine between negligence and an adverse outcome, which can occur even with perfect adherence to all procedures.

However, investigative bodies often view any death in a medical institution as a potential crime. These nuances should be assessed by medical experts, not investigators.

Arrest and detention are justified only for those who pose a real threat to society. What threat can an experienced doctor pose? Detention in a cell will not solve the patient's problem but can ruin the life and reputation of the doctor.

Those making such decisions must realize how much this undermines the morale of the entire medical profession!

After such incidents, young specialists will be afraid to take responsibility for complex cases. Why risk their careers if any misunderstanding can land them in prison?

This approach could leave us without qualified specialists in the future.

You cannot judge a professional who has served faithfully for many years based on one unfortunate incident until a final verdict is reached and an independent examination is conducted.

And the main question arises: where is the insurance medicine? In developed countries, medical errors are considered in the context of liability insurance. The insurance company pays compensation, and a special commission assesses the doctor's qualifications.

We all, as patients and medical workers, need the implementation of insurance medicine and legally guaranteed protection for doctors from criminal prosecution for professional risks.

Otherwise, tomorrow, healers and charlatans will "treat" us and our children,” he concluded.
