For the first time in the last 15 years, the Gulf of Finland has completely frozen over. This was reported by Alexander Kolesov, head of the Hydrometeorological Center of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region.
According to the expert, the favorable frosty conditions of recent days have contributed to the formation of ice across the entire water area of the gulf. “In the open part of the gulf, young ice was observed for 2-3 days, which is quite thin and transparent, making it difficult to visualize on satellite images; however, it is present,” noted Kolesov.

The last time such a phenomenon was recorded was in 2010 and 2011.

Additionally, he previously published a satellite image showing that ice covered the entire surface of Lake Ladoga.

Snowfall was also recorded in Moscow, breaking the record set in 1970.
