The Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kyrgyzstan and the Council of Ulema have announced the amount of fitr-sadaqah for 2026. Questions about when and in what volume fitr-sadaqah should be paid, the obligation to transfer it through the mosque, and the consequences of delays — all of this is discussed in detail in the material Kaktus.media.

Definition of Fitr-Sadaqah

Fitr-sadaqah is a mandatory charity that must be given exclusively during the month of fasting. Donations at other times in the Muslim calendar do not qualify as fitr-sadaqah.

Amount of Fitr-Sadaqah per Person

The amount of fitr-sadaqah for each individual is determined annually by the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kyrgyzstan and the Council of Ulema. The amount is expressed in the weight of certain products: wheat, flour, raisins, barley, or dates, from which each person chooses the most suitable for themselves.

Amount of Fitr-Sadaqah in 2026

For 2026, fitr-sadaqah will be 1.6 kg of wheat (60 soms), 3.2 kg of barley (100 soms), 880 soms for raisins, 90 soms for flour, or 1,200 soms for dates.

Methods of Paying Fitr-Sadaqah

Fitr-sadaqah can be paid either in kind or in monetary equivalent. It is recommended to focus on the weight of the products, as their prices may fluctuate. You can donate an amount corresponding to the price of one of the offered products.

Deadline for Paying Fitr-Sadaqah

Fitr-sadaqah must be paid during the period from the beginning of the month of fasting until the collective prayer of Eid, which takes place in mosques and public squares. The donation must be made before the holiday of Orozo Eid, as after this deadline it will not be considered fitr-sadaqah.

Consequences of Late Payment

If the mandatory charity is paid after the end of the month of fasting and after the Eid prayer, it will be considered regular sadaqah.

Obligation to Pay Fitr-Sadaqah for Non-Fasters

Yes, fitr-sadaqah must be paid by every Muslim, regardless of whether they observed the fast or not.

Can Fitr-Sadaqah be Paid for Minors?

Yes, if the parents are Muslims, they can pay fitr-sadaqah for their minor children. It is also possible to donate for those who cannot do it themselves, whether they are acquaintances or strangers.

Fitr-Sadaqah for the Deceased

The Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kyrgyzstan reports that fitr-sadaqah should only be paid for the living: "It is not advisable to give fitr-sadaqah for the deceased." However, some Islamic scholars allow the possibility of donating fitr-sadaqah for deceased relatives.

Obligation to Pay Through the Mosque

This is not mandatory. Initially, and in other countries, fitr-sadaqah was directly given to those in need so that they could have food on festive days. You can also give fitr-sadaqah to those in need, and if you decide to do it through the mosque, you can use QR codes to simplify the process.

Where Do the Funds from Fitr-Sadaqah Collected in Mosques Go?

Many Muslims choose to pay fitr-sadaqah in mosques. Of the collected funds, 60% remains for distribution among the needy. 15% goes to district khatibiyats, the same amount is allocated to regional and city qaziats, and 10% goes to the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kyrgyzstan. A commission established locally distributes the funds for charity, primarily allocating them to those in need of medical assistance and expensive treatment, as well as single mothers and needy families.

If you are fasting for the first time, it is recommended to familiarize yourself with the basic rules for fasters and read the doctor's recommendations to avoid common mistakes.
