Passengers will face new transfers
The Bishkek City Hall has announced plans to 'optimize' all bus routes in the city. This was reported by Ulanbek Beyshenbaev, the director of the Department of Transport and Development of Road Transport Infrastructure.
According to him, the changes will affect all 72 existing routes.
Some routes will be transformed into circular routes, which should improve the accessibility of public transport and redistribute passenger flows. Other routes will completely change their layouts.
Beyshenbaev stated that the goal of these changes is to increase the efficiency of public transport operations.
However, he also noted that passengers will be forced to make several transfers. As compensation, the authorities will implement a new system where the fare will be valid for one hour across multiple routes.
It is worth noting that City Hall employees, including the mayor, prefer to use personal vehicles, so the main 'guinea pigs' in this reform will be ordinary citizens.
