According to Farid Shafiev, Chairman of the Board of the Center for Analysis of International Relations, Central Asia is not just a neighboring region for Azerbaijan, but an important partner. He made this statement at the international conference "C6: A Unified Region, A Common Future — Strengthening Strategic Dialogue," held in Baku.

As reported by Trend, to achieve strategic sustainability, it is necessary to strengthen ties between states, diversify the economy and transport routes, as well as develop cooperation based on common interests. Such an approach can ensure stability and long-term development of the region, Shafiev noted.

He also added that in the last six years, Azerbaijan's foreign policy has been shaped with these factors in mind.

“Deepening cooperation with Central Asian state institutions and developing strategic partnerships have contributed to strengthening the eastern direction of our policy, while maintaining a constructive dialogue with the USA and European countries based on mutual respect. This balanced approach allows for reducing vulnerability and creating new opportunities for national and regional development,” he emphasized.

Shafiev noted that the shared history and rich cultural heritage serve as a foundation for cooperation, but today the geoeconomic aspect is decisive. This pertains to partnerships in energy, transport, logistics, and infrastructure.

“In conditions where traditional assumptions about the stability of Eurasia are losing relevance, these connections are becoming increasingly significant and strategically important,” the expert added.
