About 35 thousand ethnic Kyrgyz live in Tajikistan

This information was announced by the Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Tajikistan at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh.

Erlan Abdyldaev reported that the largest number of ethnic Kyrgyz is concentrated in the Jergital district — about 20 thousand people. In Murghab, their number is approximately 11 thousand, in the Sughd region — about 3 thousand, and in Dushanbe and Khatlon, there are 500 Kyrgyz each.

The ambassador also noted that in 2022, an organization known as "Kyrgyz koomu" was closed in Tajikistan, and efforts are currently being made to revive it. "When the Prime Minister of Tajikistan visited Kyrgyzstan, we discussed this issue. He promised that the problem would be resolved," Abdyldaev added.

Additionally, he spoke about the proposal from the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, who during his visit to Tajikistan suggested building two schools for ethnic Kyrgyz. Abdyldaev emphasized that these institutions are extremely necessary for the Kyrgyz diaspora.

There was also mention of the work of the ministries of education of both countries on the transfer of educational materials in the Kyrgyz language for ethnic Kyrgyz.
