"The Roof is Collapsing, the Walls are Falling": The Issue of Abandoned Buildings has Again Been Raised in the Moscow District
Turmush correspondent reports on this situation.
According to available data, the population of the district exceeds 100,000 people, representing various nationalities. For many years, there has been a problem in the center of the village with two social facilities, the buildings of which have fallen into disrepair and cause concern among local residents. One of these buildings is the House of Culture, built in 1933.
“All the doors are damaged. The ceiling is collapsing, the walls are crumbling, and inside there is trash and neglect,” local residents say. This is indeed the case: the House of Culture, located next to the central market and park, is covered in graffiti, and in winter, homeless people take shelter there.
The second building is located on the territory of the General Practice Center and was built in 1949-1950. Medical workers report that during the Soviet era, therapeutic and gynecological departments operated there. However, for the past 20 years, the building has been abandoned and unused. Official conclusions from government bodies confirm its emergency state.
This problem has been raised multiple times by local authorities. Letters addressing higher instances have been sent, and deputies have repeatedly visited the site to study the situation. Nevertheless, residents continue to wait for real changes for many years.
What is preventing the resolution of this problem for two or three decades? Perhaps a lack of attention to culture and healthcare? Or a shortage of funding? These questions concern local residents.
