This Sunday, February 22, Bishkek will become the center of the celebration of the ancient folk holiday "Ay, yes Maslenitsa!" The main events will take place in the square in front of the Ministry of Culture and the Assembly of the People of Kyrgyzstan at Pushkin Street, 78, starting at 11:00.
Maslenitsa in Bishkek has long transcended a simple calendar date and has turned into a large-scale festival symbolizing unity. The organizers plan to create an atmosphere that will serve as a living bridge between different cultures and generations. The program includes entertainment for the whole family: folk games, painting workshops, a crafts fair, and national-style face painting. Creative areas and animators will be organized for children to help them create their Maslenitsa dolls.
Professional artists will provide musical accompaniment. The stage will feature performances by the groups "Souvenir" and "Smile," as well as the Caucasian dance ensemble "Islamay" and dancers from "Assol." Live performances and folk rhythms will create a festive atmosphere for all guests.
The culmination of the event will be the ancient ritual of bidding farewell to winter, which includes a communal round dance and the burning of the Maslenitsa effigy. This symbolic act will unite all participants in anticipation of spring and renewal. The holiday is organized by the cultural center "Harmony" with the support of the Russian Embassy, the Bishkek City Hall, and the Assembly of the People of Kyrgyzstan.
For those who prefer outdoor recreation, Maslenitsa festivities will also be offered in the Karagach Grove. Guests and residents of the capital are invited to come with their families to spend the day in a friendly and warm atmosphere.
