Hideki Sato, a significant figure in the history of Sega, passed away at the age of 77 in Japan. This was reported by Kotaku. The causes of his death have not been disclosed.

Starting his career at Sega in 1971, Sato spent over five decades at the company, influencing the development of hardware and the creation of home gaming systems.

Under his leadership, iconic consoles such as the Sega Mega Drive (known as Genesis in the USA), Sega Saturn, and Dreamcast were developed, which played an important role in the history of video games in the late 1980s and 1990s.
The famous game Sonic the Hedgehog was released on the Mega Drive, where players were introduced to a blue hedgehog named Sonic, who became the symbol of Sega.

After the production of the Dreamcast ended, Sega changed its development direction, focusing on creating video games and digital solutions, abandoning the release of its own consoles.

In specialized publications, Hideki Sato is recognized as one of the leading engineers who defined Sega's technological direction during the peak of home consoles.
