Including funding from the Saudi Development Fund
In 2026, Bishkek is expected to open 36 new schools, which will help reduce the burden on existing educational institutions that currently serve 46,000 more students than they can accommodate.
According to information from the city administration, 20 new schools will be financed from the state budget, 12 with the support of the Saudi Development Fund, one school will be built with funds from the Russian government, and three will be financed from the local budget.
Recently, the Jogorku Kenesh approved a loan agreement with the Saudi Development Fund for $50 million (187.5 million Saudi riyals) for the construction and expansion of schools.
The loan will be provided for 25 years with a five-year grace period and an interest rate of about 1.5% per year.
These funds will be used for the construction of five new schools and seven additional buildings at existing educational institutions in Bishkek, as well as for the construction of two schools in the Chui region. Each new school will be able to accommodate between 150 and 1,000 students, significantly improving the school infrastructure of both the capital and its suburbs.
