On the air of "Birinchi Radio," obstetrician-gynecologist and head of the maternity department at the Perinatal Center of NCOMiD, Zhanailai Amiraeva, discussed the issue of maternal mortality in the country.
She noted that statistics are not just numbers, but tragedies that can be prevented. "Maternal mortality does not arise solely from complications during childbirth. It is a combination of factors, starting from the prenatal period. Unfortunately, many women do not seek medical help in a timely manner and arrive in severe conditions," Amiraeva said.

Amiraeva added that many expectant mothers skip prenatal care and only consult doctors when the situation becomes critical.
"Timely registration for care before 12 weeks of pregnancy is 80% of the success in preventing maternal mortality," she emphasized, highlighting the importance of pregnancy planning.

Among the reasons for late consultations with doctors, the obstetrician mentioned a lack of information, social vulnerability, migration, and a lack of support from family.

According to the specialist, many women ignore alarming symptoms such as severe headaches, swelling, lack of urination, and vomiting. "Vomiting more than ten times a day is a serious signal. This is not normal and can lead to serious consequences. This year, there have been cases where women died due to severe vomiting because they did not seek medical help," Amiraeva added.
Women with chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular, renal, and endocrine system pathologies, pose a separate danger. Some of them, despite contraindications, become pregnant and do not undergo the necessary monitoring.

"They come to us already in a state of decompensation, when our capabilities are limited," noted the obstetrician-gynecologist.

As Amiraeva stated, one of the main causes of maternal mortality is severe preeclampsia, which is accompanied by high blood pressure and can lead to massive postpartum hemorrhage—the most common complication during childbirth.

She emphasized that with timely identification of risks, the condition can be controlled through monitoring, medication, and adherence to all medical recommendations.
"Safe motherhood begins with pregnancy planning. Both spouses should undergo examinations. This is a fundamental point," concluded Amiraeva.

The specialist urged women not to neglect preventive check-ups, prenatal screenings, and regular visits to the doctor.
