On February 11, 2026, in Berlin, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Jeenbek Kulubaev, participated in a ministerial meeting within the framework of the "Central Asia - Germany" format. The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported on this event.

Foreign ministers from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and representatives of the Federal Republic of Germany also attended the meeting.

The discussion focused on strengthening dialogue in the areas of trade, economy, investment, and cultural-humanitarian cooperation between Central Asia and Germany.

The participants noted that there has been positive dynamics in relations between Central Asia and Germany over the past thirty years. They reaffirmed their intentions to continue strengthening partnership ties based on common values and mutual interests, as well as to maintain a high level of dialogue. Additionally, the ministers expressed satisfaction with the activation of Central Asia's interaction with the European Union.
During his speech, Jeenbek Kulubaev emphasized that the Central Asian states, following the principles of good neighborliness and mutual respect, have achieved significant successes in maintaining peace and stability in the region. This, in turn, creates favorable conditions for increasing trade volumes, attracting investments, and implementing large joint projects. The "Central Asia - Germany" format is becoming important and relevant for such dialogue.

He also highlighted the importance of deepening practical cooperation in the areas of green economy, digitalization, transport, energy, education, and tourism.

The minister expressed serious concern regarding the sanctions policy of the European Union, emphasizing the possible negative consequences of unilateral restrictive measures on the sustainable socio-economic development of Central Asian countries, as well as on their trade and investment cooperation with European partners.

Kulubaev noted that the Kyrgyz Republic strictly adheres to international obligations and supports an open dialogue with EU partners aimed at preventing risks associated with potential circumvention of sanctions.

In this context, he expressed the readiness of the Kyrgyz Republic for equal and mutually respectful partnership with the European Union and its members, which would allow for achieving more mutually beneficial results than unilateral sanctions pressure.

History of Sanctions Pressure

Sanctions from the EU and the USA affect companies from various countries, including Kyrgyzstan, due to suspicions of circumventing restrictions imposed on Russia.
Kyrgyzstan has repeatedly expressed its opinion on the groundlessness of sanctions against its banks. President Sadyr Japarov criticized the West in 2025 at a UN meeting for imposing sanctions against the republic, calling them interference in internal affairs and pressure that hinders the development of an economy that is just beginning to form.
