In an interview with a Turmush correspondent, Almaz shared that he wanted his grandparents' anniversary to be truly special.
“Grandpa got married at the age of 26, and Grandma at 22. Their marriage was registered on January 20, 1976. My sister and I planned everything in advance: first, they visited a café, then went to the cinema. After the movie, we prepared a special photo zone and invited them there. Grandpa and Grandma were stunned and cried tears of joy, as they usually saw such moments only on screen or over the phone. Passersby couldn’t help but express their admiration,” he recounts.
Almaz noted that in recent years it has become popular for guys to arrange such romantic surprises. “When people see a couple that has been together for 50 years, they always express kind wishes,” he added.
According to the grandson, his grandparents now live in Karakol, close to him. “Having received their blessing, I also hope to find my love and live a happy life until I am a hundred,” said Akmatov.
The couple celebrating their golden anniversary raised five children and are proud grandparents to 19 grandchildren, as well as great-grandparents to six great-grandchildren.
“Grandpa and Grandma consider themselves to be a large family, as both worked as teachers and dedicated many years of their lives to their profession before retiring. Grandpa taught animal husbandry and veterinary medicine at an agricultural college, reaching the position of deputy director.
Grandma taught elementary classes at Ak-Bulun Secondary School in the Tyup district. Even now, her former students keep in touch with her and visit. If everything goes well, we plan to gather all the children and invite close and distant relatives for a big celebration this spring,” concluded Almaz Akmatov.
