Universal Pictures is planning to revive the "Mummy" franchise and is already in active negotiations with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz about their return to the project. This was reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

If the parties reach an agreement, the actors will reprise their roles from the cult trilogy created by Stephen Sommers.

Although Universal has not yet disclosed either the release date or the title of the new film, fans are already calling it "Mummy 4," expecting it to be a direct continuation of the story that began in 1999.

Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz first played their roles in the 1999 film and then again in the sequel "The Mummy Returns" in 2001. In the third film, released in 2008 under the title "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor," Weisz did not participate, making her possible return particularly exciting for fans.

The direction of the new film will be entrusted to Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, while the script will be written by David Koepp. The production team also includes Sean Daniel, William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Nainstein.

"The Mummy" represents a famous media franchise from Universal Pictures, combining elements of adventure horror and based on the story of an ancient Egyptian priest who returns to life. The main plot focuses on archaeologists who accidentally awaken a mummy that carries a curse. This series includes the classic 1932 film, the successful trilogy with Fraser released from 1999 to 2008, and a remake released in 2017.
