Roskomnadzor has begun to restrict the operation of Telegram - RBC
According to sources from the publication, partial restrictions will start on February 10. One of the informants indicated that actions are already being taken.
Since February 9, the number of complaints about Telegram outages has increased and exceeds 11,000, according to data from the Downdetector service.
In October, Roskomnadzor reported the start of partial restrictions on the operation of Telegram and WhatsApp, allegedly to combat fraudulent activities. In January, Andrey Svintsov, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, criticized Telegram for its "slow" actions in blocking anonymous channels, but assured that a complete shutdown of the messenger is not planned.
He noted: "There are anonymous channels on Telegram that publish unreliable information and distort facts. It seems that the promptness of blocking these channels in Russia leaves much to be desired."
