Zhaskul Kozhomgeldieva, a 43-year-old resident of the At-Bashy district in the Naryn region, along with her husband, has been engaged in the sale of rock salt and animal feed for many years.

In this area, where livestock farming is the main occupation, the demand for these products remains high year-round.

According to Kozhomgeldieva, the need for rock salt does not decrease in summer or winter in the livestock region of At-Bashy. "Feed prices are stable: a kilogram of wheat and barley costs 28 soms. We mainly bring feed from the Chui region — Tokmok and Kemin, as well as from the Issyk-Kul region. We sell at the same price. Ground bran costs 29 soms," she said.

She also noted that a kilogram of rock salt costs 16 soms and is supplied from the Toktogul district. Salt is usually harvested in winter and then sold throughout the year. "We stock up on salt in winter. Livestock owners often buy it in large batches during this period. Sometimes we even deliver it to the summer pastures. This salt is the most important 'vitamin' for livestock. If animals do not receive salt, they weaken and start to get sick," added Zhaskul.

According to her, salt is essential for the health of animals, as it helps tethered livestock gain weight and be better fed. Without salt, livestock loses weight, exhibits nasal discharge, and lethargy. "Since At-Bashy is a livestock district, we use a lot of salt. Without salt, livestock cannot be complete. Therefore, it must be available both in winter and in summer," she concluded.
