The Taliban Adopted a Code Allowing Slavery and the Killing of Dissenters
The human rights organization "Ravodari" published the text of this code on its website and indicated that it legalizes discrimination based on various criteria, including gender, religion, and class, as well as slavery, the killing of dissenters, and violence, particularly against women and children.
Bilqis Ahmadi, a human rights activist, emphasizes that this code provides better protection for animal rights than for women's rights. The Malala Fund, founded by Malala Yousafzai, the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize laureate for her fight for women's rights, stated that this document completes the process of legalizing "gender apartheid" in Afghanistan.
One striking example noted by human rights and feminist organizations is Article 32 of the code. It states that if a husband inflicts serious injuries on his wife, such as fractures or bruises, and the wife can confirm this in court, the husband will be found guilty and sentenced to 15 days in prison.
At the same time, Article 70 establishes that a person who forces animals (such as dogs or birds) to fight will be sentenced to up to five months. Thus, according to the new code, organizing animal fights is considered a more serious crime than harming a wife.
