According to the latest data, the share of foreign workers at construction sites in Russia has fallen to 20 percent. This decrease is related to changes in migration legislation and a reduced demand for labor. The information was provided by Anton Glushkov, president of the National Association of Builders (NOSTROY).

Glushkov noted that the main reasons for this change are the tightening of migration rules and a decrease in the need for foreign workers. According to him, although foreign specialists still work at Russian construction sites — in some regions, such as Siberia, there are fewer of them, while in the central part of the country there are more — the share of Russian citizens at construction sites has significantly increased. Previously, this share was about 70 percent, and now it reaches 80 percent.

According to the expert, most foreign workers come to Russia from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. In recent years, there has been a trend towards an increasing number of workers from India.

“In recent years, there has been a shift towards Uzbekistan, while the number of Tajik workers in the construction industry is decreasing. Nevertheless, new markets, such as India and Pakistan, are beginning to actively penetrate, especially in agriculture and light industry. The construction industry will also become the next important direction for these countries,” he added.
