Using ChatGPT reduces brain neural activity by 47%

A study conducted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) revealed how the use of the ChatGPT chatbot affects users' cognitive abilities. The results showed that excessive reliance on artificial intelligence leads to a significant decrease in mental activity and a deterioration in information retention.

Researchers noted that neural activity in individuals who actively use neural networks dropped from 79 to 42 points, representing a 47% decrease. Furthermore, 83.3% of participants who used AI to write texts could not recall any of their phrases after a few minutes. In contrast, those who worked without the help of AI demonstrated high results in concentration and memory.

Additionally, the researchers identified a "paradox of efficiency": although ChatGPT allows tasks to be completed 60% faster, the cognitive load decreases by 32%. This leads to a long-term effect, as even after stopping work with AI, the brain activity of participants remained lower than that of those who did not use neural networks. Essays created with the help of algorithms, while technically correct, were often noted by experts as "soulless" and "robotic."

According to the study's findings and expert opinions, AI has not become a means for mass intellectual progress. On the contrary, in the modern world, a person does not need to think actively for survival; thinking becomes an exclusive privilege of the "creative person." If a conscious approach to using AI is not applied, there is a risk of turning millions of people into passive consumers of content with a decline in cognitive functions.

Scientists recommend viewing AI as an assistant rather than a replacement for active thinking. The best results are shown by users who first develop their skills without neural networks and then use technology to enhance their existing knowledge.
