Among the most significant measures is a complete ban on services related to the maritime transportation of Russian oil, which is due to the global nature of shipping. The press release emphasizes that this ban will be implemented in cooperation with allies following the G7 decision.
The 20th sanctions package also includes:
- 43 vessels related to the "shadow fleet";
- 20 regional banks in Russia;
- restrictions on cryptocurrency and the platforms where they are traded;
- an expansion of the list of goods banned for import from Russia and export to the country;
- a ban on the export of computer equipment and radio equipment to countries with a high risk of re-exporting to Russia;
- strengthening legal guarantees for rights holders, protecting them from "unjust expropriation" on the territory of the Russian Federation.
Ursula von der Leyen, the head of the European Commission, is calling for the adoption of the new sanctions package ahead of the anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion, which is marked on February 24.
It is worth noting that the previous, 19th sanctions package was approved on October 23, 2025.
