The Trump Administration May Approve the Resumption of International Aid to North Korea
This concerns the unlocking of sanctions exceptions that were imposed by the UN Security Council Committee regarding the DPRK. For several months, the U.S. has limited the issuance of permits, fearing that humanitarian supplies could be misused. However, according to the publication, Washington now plans to lift these restrictions, allowing international aid to once again enter the country.
Interestingly, this decision is being made against the backdrop of Kim Jong Un's strengthening ties with Russia and China. The newspaper emphasizes that the resumption of approval for humanitarian aid does not necessarily lead to an improvement in relations between Pyongyang and Washington.
According to WSJ, in recent years, Kim Jong Un has shown little interest in dialogue with the U.S. and South Korea, despite Trump's attempts and the election last year of South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, who advocates for improved inter-Korean relations.
It is worth noting that in 2024, North Korea rejected international aid after severe floods left thousands of people homeless.
