The situation surrounding the specialized boarding school for the blind and visually impaired, located on Kulatov Street in Bishkek, is causing much debate. Parents and teachers of the institution are actively opposing its relocation to more remote areas, such as the village of Chon-Aryk or Tash-Dobo (Vorontsovka), which became known in December of last year.

Consequences of the relocation for students and their families

One mother shared her concerns: "We moved to Bishkek so our child could study here. I have other children who attend different schools. If the school is relocated, I won't be able to manage transportation and pick up the children on time. The roads are so congested now that even within the city, it's difficult to get to the right place."

Another mother noted: "There are already problems with public transport in Vorontsovka without us."

Parents emphasize that the school is actively integrated into city life: students are engaged in computer literacy, learn to navigate with a white cane, play chess and checkers, study foreign languages, and participate in cultural events. "Relocating the school outside the city will lead to the isolation of children and limit their opportunities for full development. A dedicated bus will not solve all the logistical issues," they report.

We insist on canceling the decision to relocate the school outside of Bishkek and demand that it be kept in the city by building a new, modern, and accessible building on the same site for the benefit of the children, educators, and the entire community.
