Is Destruction Underway? Deputy Prime Minister Responds to Question About the Development of Central Bishkek
“We are talking about nine floors. But this is the historical center of the city, where 'Stalins' and other architectural monuments are located. Are we really heading towards their destruction?” — the parliament member asked.
In response to these words, the Minister of Construction, Architecture, and Housing and Communal Services, Nurdin Oruntaev, noted that buildings in the style of "Stalinist Empire" have outlived their usefulness and are in a state of emergency.
“According to our technical standards, their service life has expired. They were designed for 50 years, but have already stood for over a hundred years,” — the minister added.
In response to public concern, the First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Daniyar Amangeldiev, assured that the opinions of citizens would be taken into account when planning development in the center of Bishkek.
“We will consider the technical condition of these buildings. Preserving the historical and cultural center is an important task. Your comments will be heard, but we must also focus on technical parameters,” — he emphasized. Amangeldiev also reminded about the renovation law, which is part of the modernization of urban infrastructure. Specialists will be involved in this process, which will also reflect on the general plan concept,” — he noted.
Gula Kozhokulova emphasized that this is about preserving the historical and architectural appearance of the capital, suggesting that the experience of other world capitals, where there is an "old town" and a "new town," should be taken into account. She urged the authorities of Kyrgyzstan to follow this principle in the process of developing Bishkek.
