Vlad Ushakov, a well-known public figure and eco-activist, expressed dissatisfaction with the actions of the Bishkek city hall regarding the greening of the city. He voiced this position on his social media.
He noted: "When representatives of the city hall declare 'on camera' their intention to create a new city park at the site of the Osh market, I cannot help but doubt it. Look at what a wonderful park was promised and ultimately created at the site of the demolished Naryn restaurant in Victory Square. What a beautiful recreation area they equipped at the site of the demolished garages in microdistrict 11! And how wonderfully they transformed the territory where the prosecutor's office used to be located in Ala-Too Square, as well as created a Kyrgyz Times Square next to the Central Department Store and fresh plantings in the botanical garden... With each passing year, the shades of Bishkek's alleys are becoming greener," he added.
It is worth noting that the public is critical of the modernization of parks, such as the Botanical Garden and Atatürk Park, where trees and shrubs are being cut down for the construction of running tracks and the installation of other facilities. At the same time, some residents support the municipality's initiatives, believing that new social facilities for recreation are more important, especially considering the population growth.
We remind you that this year the Osh market will be relocated outside the city. Authorities have already held meetings with traders to discuss issues related to the move. It has not yet been reported what will appear at the site of the current market. However, one of the promises made to the public was the creation of a parking area.
