At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Gulnara Akimbaeva appealed to the government to provide support to Kyrgyz citizens who participated in the cleanup efforts following the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in 1986.
She reminded that more than 4,000 citizens of Kyrgyzstan were sent to the site of the tragedy to work on eliminating the consequences of the disaster.
“On April 26, 2026, it will be 40 years since the catastrophe. More than 4,000 of our fellow citizens participated in the cleanup, and many of them suffered from radiation. Currently, only 800 people are still alive, and many of them have disabilities,” the deputy emphasized.

Akimbaeva also noted the need to organize commemorative events in April and to provide social support to Chernobyl victims and their families from government bodies.

In addition, she called for assistance to Kyrgyz citizens who participated in military actions in Afghanistan.
