On February 3, President Sadyr Japarov visited the State Center for Vehicle Registration and discussed current issues with driving school cadets.

He reported that over the past ten years, there have been 75,000 traffic accidents in the country, claiming the lives of 9,120 people.

“That’s about a thousand lives each year. More than 113,000 people have been injured, and half of them have become disabled. The state is forced to assist them by providing benefits,” he noted.

According to the president, in 2025, 724,000 people will graduate from driving school courses, but only 100,000 of them will successfully pass the exams.

The president added that “private driving schools cannot claim a high level of education if only 14% of cadets pass the exams, whereas previously this figure reached almost 95% due to corruption.”

Japarov also criticized the system where 275 driving schools previously used corrupt schemes and noted that the “turnkey service,” which allows obtaining a license for $1,000, still exists. He assured that new driver's licenses cannot be forged.

The president recalled the tragedy in his family when his younger brother and his wife died in a traffic accident involving a drunk driver. “Their car was hit from behind, and the vehicle flipped several times. Fortunately, four children survived but were injured,” he said. He also mentioned that his older son died in a traffic accident in 2019.

Japarov addressed the cadets, emphasizing the importance of quality training: “There are thousands of families who have lost loved ones in accidents. To avoid this, study well. Ten months will pass very quickly.”

The president posed the question: “What is better - to study for 3.5 months for 48,000 soms and then spend a year taking exams, or to undergo full training for 10 months for 19,000 soms and take the exam immediately?”

He urged the cadets not to perceive the 10 months of training as a long period. “I hear many opinions that this is too long. But I am here to explain that this is necessary for our future,” he added.

According to Japarov, in some countries, such as the USA and Canada, training can last up to two years. “I myself studied at DOSAAF in the 70s for categories B and C for 6 months, and the training was intensive,” he concluded.
