“Curricula are periodically adjusted.”
At a recent briefing organized by the Ministry of Education, representatives of the agency once again raised the issue of introducing 12-year education. They believe that criticism from parents is premature, as the new standards and programs are in the implementation stage.
Olga Bryzgalova, a representative of the Ministry of Education, noted: “It is incorrect to assert that the new educational standards in mathematics and natural sciences for grades 1, 2, 5, and 7 are more difficult than the previous ones; they are simply restructured and have a different format.”
She added that teachers, first and foremost, had to face certain difficulties as they needed to master new teaching methodologies during the summer break.
Abakir Mamytov, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences and leading researcher at the Laboratory of Technology, Arts, and Health Culture of the Kyrgyz Academy of Education, emphasized that the program has been significantly revised and simplified with a focus on practical application.
According to him, the transition to 12-year education is driven by necessity. Research shows that children are developing faster physiologically, psychologically, and intellectually compared to 20-30 years ago. Therefore, starting the educational process at the age of six addresses two issues: early education and relieving the burden on the preschool education system. Schools in Kyrgyzstan offered a multitude of subjects; however, the effectiveness of their teaching often left much to be desired. One of the goals was to reduce the overall academic load, which in some cases exceeded 1000 hours per year, while in international practice this figure is 800-850 hours. The updated programs place greater emphasis on mathematics, natural sciences, English language, and digital technologies,” he concluded.
