The SCO Discusses a Unified Currency for the Organization

The Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Nurlan Ermekbaev, commented on the creation of a unified currency for the organization. His words were published by RIA Novosti.

Ermekbaev noted that at the current moment, the issue of a unified currency is not a priority for the SCO. Instead, the focus is on forming a flexible, resilient, and diverse payment system that will take into account the needs of the member states and promote the development of trade and economic relations.

In December of last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin also raised a similar topic, stating that within the framework of BRICS, there is no task of creating a unified currency. According to him, such a process should take place gradually to avoid serious mistakes.
