According to local residents, the project involves the creation of a road approximately 30 meters wide, taking into account all necessary elements such as the roadway, sidewalks, drainage system, and landscaping. However, it has become known that the implementation of this project may require the demolition of the cemetery located in this area.
During the meeting, the mayor emphasized that the authorities are exploring various options for implementing the road project.
“The first option is to build in a straight line. As you can see, high-voltage lines previously ran along this line. I asked specialists to examine this area and consider all possible options. Demolition is not something that is planned to be done hastily; it is a complex task,” he noted.
“The second option is to bypass the cemetery. This road is indeed necessary, as it is important for residents and public transport,” the mayor added.
“We must think about the development of the city and not remain stagnant. I can provide numerous examples from other cities where cemeteries have been relocated for the sake of development. The population is growing, and we must take this into account,” he concluded.
However, some residents of the village are opposed to the demolition of the cemetery, claiming that their loved ones are buried there. Today, February 2, they sent a letter to the head of the State Committee for National Security, Kamchybek Tashiev.
“We, the residents of Novopavlovka, express our strong disagreement with the plans to demolish the cemetery located in our village,” their letter states.
“This cemetery is the burial place of our relatives and an important part of the village's history. Several generations are laid to rest on its grounds, and any intervention without the consent of the community violates moral norms,” they emphasize.
The residents also added that the demolition of the cemetery:
- offends the memory of the deceased and the feelings of their loved ones;
- violates traditions and cultural values;
- may contradict current legislation on the protection of burial sites;
- creates social tension and distrust towards the authorities.
