This publication is a documentary work that details the process of creating the first feature film by Kyrgyz director Tölömüş Okeev. The author of the book is his daughter, Aziza Okeeva.
The book contains rare archival photographs, unique storyboards, previously unpublished materials, as well as memories from people who were directly involved in the making of the film. The publication thoroughly reveals the complex creative journey, from the initial idea to the premiere on screen.
The film "The Sky of Our Childhood" was shot in 1966 at the Kyrgyzfilm studio under the direction of director Tölömüş Okeev. The plot of the film tells the story of a boy who comes to spend his summer vacation with his parents in a mountain pasture, leaving behind the city and the home of his older sister. His aging parents, especially his father, dream of their son staying with them and continuing the nomadic lifestyle. The older children have already moved to the city, and now the question of who will take care of the parents and continue the family traditions becomes particularly relevant.
The film received numerous awards, including at international festivals. In 1968, the creative team was awarded the Lenin Komsomol Prize of Kyrgyzstan in the field of literature and art. The awards were given to director and screenwriter Tölömüş Okeev, screenwriter K. Omurkulov, and cameraman K. Kydyraliev.
Tölömüş Okeev was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Kyrgyzstan. He also received an Honorary Diploma at the IV International Film Festival in Frankfurt am Main in 1969, and became a prizewinner at the VI Festival of the Central Asian Republics and Kazakhstan in Dushanbe that same year.
Okeev's work was recognized with a Diploma for Best Directorial Debut and a prize from the magazine "IK" in 1969, as well as a diploma at the first Tashkent International Film Festival of Asian and African countries. In 1968, the director was awarded a Special Prize and a debut award at the All-Union Film Festival in Leningrad (St. Petersburg).
