Improvement in Air Quality Noted in Bishkek and Chui Region
The Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision, Meder Mashiev, reported at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh committee that the main factor contributing to air pollution in Bishkek and the Chui region is the use of coal for heating in the private sector, which accounts for almost 40% of total pollution.
Additionally, according to him, 30% of pollution is related to exhaust gases from old cars, 15% to emissions from thermal power plants, 13.5% to dust carried by the wind, and only 1.5% to emissions from industrial enterprises.
"According to data from 'Kyrgyzhydromet', there has been a positive trend in air quality in the region over the past two years. Active gasification is being carried out to reduce coal dependence. This year, a loan program at 8% has been initiated from the republican budget, but we managed to reduce the interest rate to 3% for amounts up to 150,000 soms. Additionally, this year a loan agreement with the World Bank for 50 million dollars has started, as well as a grant project from KOICA for 10 million dollars aimed at supporting this area," the minister added.
