Secrets of Catching Perch in Winter. Video
Sport fisherman Aibek Algoyoev shared his secrets for catching silver perch during the harsh winter conditions:
“Winter, especially in the middle of the season (the harsh winter period), is a real test for a fisherman. During this time, the oxygen in the water under the ice becomes insufficient, and the activity of fish significantly decreases. Personally, I find that challenging fishing brings me more pleasure. Winter fishing trips during the New Year holidays are a great way to relax after a hard day’s work. To catch perch, it is necessary to constantly move across the ice. The first thing to do is to find a spot with fish. The more new holes you check, the higher the chance of success. Next, you should vary the jigging technique. In harsh winter conditions, we rely solely on jigs to catch predators. It’s important to diversify your technique: you can make pauses at the bottom, sharp lifts, and drops. It’s worth experimenting with different layers of water. Don’t forget to return to already checked holes, especially if you’ve baited them. A hole in winter is a kind of oasis of oxygen, which, combined with bait, attracts perch. After 30-40 minutes of baiting, you can expect a bite. This is a proven fact.”
