Residents of Novopavlovka Concerned About the Fate of the Cemetery During Road Construction and Met with the Mayor of Bishkek
The recording of the meeting is actively being shared on social media. One of the participants expressed her concern: “We have one request: build the road without touching our cemetery. Is that possible?”
The mayor responded by clarifying that there have been cases of reburials in the past, and he urged not to make exceptions for this situation. “Why do you always want to make an exception? If I decided to demolish someone’s house, you would all shout: ‘Hooray! Hooray!’. But when it comes to you, you say: ‘This is wrong,’” noted Junushaliev.
One of the officials present at the meeting also urged local residents not to panic and voiced Olga Olshanskaya's appeal to the Ministry of Transport and Communications regarding whether the road is planned to go through the cemetery.
Talantbek Soltobaev, who was then the First Deputy Minister of Transport, confirmed that according to the approved project documentation, the project does not affect the cemetery land. However, residents remain skeptical and again request that the cemetery not be disturbed.
