Foxes near houses in the Sokuluk District: a seasonal phenomenon or a troubling sign?
One local resident described his winter experience: “In the morning, peeking out from behind the reeds, I saw a light-red fox that was carefully looking around and listening. When it noticed me, it simply hid behind a bush but did not rush to run away.”
According to this resident of the Sokuluk district, foxes have stopped paying attention to barking dogs, the noise of cars, and conversations of people, which causes him concern.
Ecologist Alexander Sosnovsky provided an explanation for this phenomenon. He noted that “foxes are usually not picky about their food and eat everything they can find — from frogs to lizards, as well as bird eggs. However, in winter, when food sources become scarcer, they are forced to search for food closer to human dwellings, losing their caution in the process.”
