Experts in ichthyology note that roach is a species of fish that is found exclusively in the Chui region. It reaches sexual maturity in its second or third year of life, and its weight ranges from 50 to 100 grams. For a beginner angler, catching roach can be a stroke of luck, while for experienced fishermen, it serves as a reliable support.
In the region's water bodies, one can always catch several dozen roaches, which are perfect for fish soup. However, it is especially gratifying when a small fish becomes a true trophy.
“Large roach weighing up to 500 grams have started to be caught in Toktosha. In summer, there is also a catch of larger individuals. This is likely related to the presence of pike in the waters of Toktosha and neighboring bodies of water, which plays a role in ecological sanitation by eating small and sick fish, thereby improving the living conditions of other inhabitants. Like many leaseholders of water bodies, I leave the pike to promote the growth of non-predatory fish. In the fall, catfish were released into the water body, and now I am eagerly waiting for spring to see how they survive the winter,” said fish farmer and leaseholder from the Jayil district, Vladimir Grebenev.
