A resident of the Batken region, Nargiza Kushanova, has attracted public attention with her bold act: she managed to catch a wolf alive using a cleverly set trap.

In an interview with a Turmush correspondent, she shared that her love for wild animals began in childhood. While staying on the summer pastures with her father, she mastered the skills of recognizing wolf tracks and studying their behavior.

“From a young age, I often accompanied my father on trips to high mountain pastures. I have no fear of wolves or other predators. During horseback rides, we often encountered wild animals. I never felt panic; on the contrary, I became curious about where they went and which tracks to follow,” Nargiza recalls.

She emphasized that catching a wolf is not an easy task. These predators are quite cautious, and a hunter's mistake can lead to serious consequences. “The wolf that I caught and filmed on video came to me about 3–4 years ago. At that time, wolves were frequently attacking livestock. I followed the predator's tracks, determined its route, and set the trap in such a way that it was completely inconspicuous: I buried it in the ground and covered it with a light layer of soil. When I returned home, the next morning, right after the morning prayer, I went to check the trap. When I reached the spot, the trap was gone — it was clear that the wolf had been caught,” she recounts.

According to Nargiza, the tracks left by the animal helped her track it along the water's edge. “When I returned home, I told my family that I had caught a wolf, and we all went to the site together. I pressed the predator's head to the ground with a special fork-like stick, while my brother-in-law threw a loop over it. In the end, we managed to capture the wolf alive,” she shares.

Nargiza noted that the behavior of the wolf depends on which paw is caught in the trap. If it is a hind paw, the predator will desperately try to break free, but if it is a front paw, the chances of escape are virtually nonexistent.
