In the city of Petropavlovsk, a 37-year-old man who had been stalking a woman for one and a half years was sentenced to 100 hours of mandatory community service. This was reported by Tengrinews.kz.
The first Kazakhstani conviction in a stalking case was announced in the Petropavlovsk city court.
“The victim reported that for more than a year, a 37-year-old man had been following her, constantly seeking her attention, and having conflicts with her and her acquaintances. He had previously been held accountable for obscene remarks directed at the woman, as well as for causing her bodily harm and attacking her acquaintance. Despite this, he did not cease his actions,” the press service of the North Kazakhstan police department stated.
The woman noted that she faced constant stress, was afraid to go outside, and worried about the safety of her loved ones, who could also become victims of the stalker.
With the introduction of Article 115-1 in the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan, concerning stalking, in September 2025, the accused attempted to establish contact with the victim twice. One of these incidents was recorded by a camera that the woman installed in her entrance.
On January 22, the woman contacted law enforcement. The police conducted an investigation and forwarded the case materials to the court. On January 28, a decision was made — 100 hours of community service.
Additionally, the man is prohibited from consuming alcohol, is required to regularly report to the police for preventive talks, and must completely avoid any contact with the victim. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
The public safety department of the North Kazakhstan police reported that in January, two cases of stalking were registered in the region, with a pre-trial investigation currently underway for the second case.
