Dastan Bekeshev proposes to issue family visas to avoid separating families
An important issue regarding the reunification of families affected by visa restrictions was raised at the parliamentary meeting.
During the session of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Dastan Bekeshev drew attention to the problem of divided families that has arisen due to the visa regime between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
According to him, citizens often approach him with difficulties in reuniting with their loved ones due to migration rules. In some cases, spouses are in different countries, while children remain in Kazakhstan, as one of the parents is a citizen of that country.
Bekeshev proposed to consider the possibility of introducing family visas to facilitate border crossing for family members, as well as to discuss with Kazakhstan the issue of mutual concessions for relatives of citizens of both countries.
First Deputy Foreign Minister Almaz Imangaziev confirmed the existence of this problem. He reminded that in 2023, Kazakhstan established the rule of "90 days of stay within 180 days," but at the initiative of the Kyrgyz side, this rule was temporarily not applied until the end of 2025. In December, Kazakhstan reintroduced restrictions, forcing Kyrgyzstan to implement mirror measures.
Imangaziev also noted that cases where citizens cannot cross the border are not widespread, although they have a humanitarian aspect. He reported that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is monitoring the situation at the border and that in the first half of 2026, the authorities will consider the possibility of making decisions for individual citizens who were unable to enter the country for family or humanitarian reasons.
