February 2026 will bring significant changes for the citizens of Kyrgyzstan. During this time, as the country prepares for the start of the holy month of Ramadan, checks for taxi drivers' licenses will begin, and the training process for drivers will be fully controlled by the state. Kaktus.media summarizes the key events that will impact the lives of Kyrgyz citizens in the upcoming month.

Ramadan

The holy month for Muslims will begin on February 18, although changes to the start date are possible.

Checks on Illegal Taxi Drivers

Starting February 1, taxi drivers without the necessary licenses will face fines. According to data from the State Traffic Safety Department, approximately 30,000 people work in the taxi system, of which only 7,000 have licenses. In the Jogorku Kenesh, there were proposals to extend the licensing deadlines due to a possible shortage of drivers, but fines will take effect in February. It should be noted that the legalization process was supposed to be completed by December 2025, but the deadline was extended to February 1.

Increase in Taxi Prices

Deputy Dastan Bekeshev warned of a potential taxi shortage in the country because not all drivers managed to obtain licenses. This may result in thousands of taxi drivers being left without work, and passengers may face increased prices for rides.

“If a ride used to cost 200-300 soms, now be prepared for 700-800. And this is without considering traffic jams, rain, and increased demand,” he noted.

New Training System in Driving Schools

A state monopoly on driver training is being introduced in Kyrgyzstan: training will only be available in state driving schools. To obtain a category B license, training will last 10 months, and for category C - 12 months. Enrollment in driving schools will begin in mid-February through the "Tunduk" platform.

Kyrgyzstan Representatives at the Winter Olympics

This year's Winter Olympic Games will take place in Italy from February 6 to 22. Kyrgyzstan will be represented by two athletes: Artur Saparbekov will compete in cross-country skiing in the sprint and 10 km events, while Timur Shakirov will participate in alpine skiing in the slalom and giant slalom disciplines.

Preparation for Elections in District 13

Repeat elections for single-member district No. 13 are scheduled for March 1, 2026. As of January 28, 27 candidates have been registered.

Discussion of Bishkek's General Plan

Residents of the capital will be able to submit their ideas for the general plan until February 7. According to information on the "Koomduk Talkuu" website, after this date, the public discussion will conclude, and the document will be sent to the next stage - adjustment, coordination, or approval.

Mandatory Navigation Seals Starting February 11

From February 11, 2026, a permanent tracking system for transportation using navigation seals will be introduced in the countries participating in the Eurasian Economic Union. This innovation will affect the transportation of alcoholic products, tobacco, and tobacco products by both road and rail transport.

No Need to Compensate for January Holidays

In January, Kyrgyz citizens had a holiday until the 12th. Initially, the Ministry of Labor proposed to make up for the additional holidays on February 7 and April 25 by moving working days to Saturday. However, in the final version of the resolution, this idea was abandoned - employees will not be required to make up for the January holidays.
